Secret de Musc

Secret de Musc from the French house Reine de Saba, composed by Jean-Christophe Hérault and released in 2024, is a spiced woody musk. Musky is the word everyone uses for it; about two thirds also find it spicy, woody or ambery, and a third aromatic or citrusy.

Lemon gives the opening a clean, bright sparkle, and pink pepper and nutmeg follow with a warm, slightly sweet spice. Lavender adds a clean, herbal, aromatic tone that keeps the middle fresh. The musk comes in several forms: ambrette, a soft natural musk with a faint pear-like sweetness, and musk itself, clean and skin-like. Patchouli brings an earthy depth, vetiver a rooty, smoky woodiness, and styrax a sweet, balsamic, slightly leathery resin. Ambroxan gives the base a dry, mineral, radiant amber that carries the scent for hours.
