Shaghaf Oud Royale by Swiss Arabian, released in 2023, is a spicy woody oud that anyone can wear. Everyone describes it as spicy and woody, and about half also find it musky and aromatic.
It opens with saffron and lavender, an unusual pairing: saffron brings a dry, leathery, slightly medicinal spice, and lavender a clean, herbal freshness that lightens the start. The heart is agarwood, or oud, and nutmeg, the oud dark, dry and resinous, the nutmeg adding a warm, woody spice. Patchouli and musk form the base, patchouli giving earth and depth, musk smoothing the edges so the drydown stays soft and close.
No wear reports have been collected yet. Saffron, oud and nutmeg suit autumn and winter and evening wear, and the lavender keeps it a little fresher than most ouds, for someone who wants the traditional style with a lighter opening.
