Shaghaf Vanilla Toffee from Swiss Arabian, released in 2024, is a full gourmand: nearly everyone describes it as sweet first, with only a minority noticing spice, wood, musk or resin underneath. It is a dessert of a fragrance, worn by anyone, that leans towards toffee and vanilla rather than fruit.
The opening is toffee and coffee together, a caramelised, slightly roasted start that is darker than plain sugar. The heart adds dates, milk and vanilla, with walnut and a pinch of cardamom giving it a nutty, lightly spiced texture, like a rich pudding. The base is where the vanilla takes over, supported by brown sugar, tonka bean and benzoin for a soft resinous warmth, with musk and a faint woody note keeping it from becoming cloying.
Most people find it long lasting and over half describe the projection as strong, so a light hand is sensible indoors. It is voted for winter and autumn and chiefly for the evening, which suits it well: this is a cold-night, close-company fragrance rather than an office scent.
