Sapphire

Sapphire from the Qatari house Al-Jazeera Perfumes is a woody, floral amber worn by anyone, released in 2016. Everyone who has described it finds it woody, floral and ambery in equal measure.

Only three notes are listed: agarwood, ambergris and violet. Agarwood provides a dark, resinous, slightly animalic wood; ambergris adds a warm, salty, skin-like glow that softens the oud; and violet brings a cool, powdery, faintly sweet floral note that sits between the two and keeps the blend from feeling austere. With so few notes, the scent is likely to be clear and consistent from start to finish rather than one that changes much over the hours.

No wear reports have been collected, so longevity and sillage are unknown. A violet and oud composition of this kind suits cooler weather and the evening, and would appeal to someone who likes oud but prefers it softened by something powdery and gentle. It is sold as a full bottle.
