Magic, composed by Loc Dong for the Qatari house Al-Jazeera Perfumes in 2016, is an unusual blend of sweet, fresh and floral. All three words are used by everyone who describes it; about half also find it woody and ambery. It is worn by anyone.
Ozonic notes and salt give the opening an airy, sea-breeze quality, clean and slightly mineral. Turkish rose and rose then bring a rich, jammy floral heart. Praline and vanilla add a nutty, caramelised sweetness that pulls the scent towards dessert, while patchouli and Amber Xtreme give the base an earthy, dry-amber strength. The salt and ozone keep returning, which is what makes the combination feel odd and memorable rather than simply sweet.
Wearers have not yet reported on longevity or projection. By character it suits cooler weather and evenings, and someone who enjoys sweet rose but wants something fresher and stranger than the usual rose gourmand.
