Noir Tropical is a four-note gourmand of rum, almond, vanilla and bergamot, released by Maria Candida Gentile in 2013 and worn by anyone. Sweetness is how everyone describes it; about half also notice the citrus. Bergamot provides a short, bright opening, a bitter-sweet citrus flash that keeps the start from being heavy. Rum then takes over, boozy, dark and slightly caramelised, the kind of warmth that suggests a glass left in the sun. Almond adds a soft, marzipan-like roundness, and vanilla carries the finish, creamy and long, blending with the rum into something close to a tropical dessert.
