Shaghaf Oud by Swiss Arabian is a sweet oud worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it calls it gourmand and woody, and about half also find it spicy and floral, so expect dark wood wrapped in dessert rather than a dry, austere oud.
It opens with saffron alone, a warm, slightly leathery spice that sets the tone. The heart brings agarwood and rose together, the oud giving a deep, resinous, slightly medicinal woodiness and the rose a jammy sweetness that softens it. The base keeps the oud running but surrounds it with vanilla and praline, so the drydown turns thick, nutty and caramel-sweet, with the wood still visible underneath.
This is a powerhouse by any measure: most wearers report it as lasting almost indefinitely or long lasting, and most describe the sillage as strong or enormous. It is voted mainly for winter, then autumn, and for evenings, which suggests cold nights and occasions where a loud, sweet oud is welcome rather than a close office setting.
