Ilha do Mel

Ilha do Mel, from Memo Paris in 2015, was composed by Alienor Massenet. It is a honeyed floral: everyone describes it as floral, about half also find it sweet, and a minority notice the citrus at the start.

The opening is mandarin orange and hyacinth with juniper, a bright, green-floral start with a slightly gin-like coolness from the juniper. The heart is where the island of honey in the name comes through: honey, broom and orange blossom give a warm, sunny, slightly waxy sweetness, jasmine adds richness, and iris a powdery softness that stops it from becoming sticky. The base is vanilla alone, soft and smooth, extending the sweetness without adding weight.

Most people find the longevity moderate or long lasting in roughly equal numbers, and the projection moderate, sometimes strong. It is voted for summer and spring and mostly for daytime. Worn by anyone, it suits warm days and people who like honey and white flowers without heavy woods or musk.
