Radical Rose from Matiere Premiere, released in 2020 and composed by Aurélien Guichard, is a spicy, dark rose. Everyone describes it as spicy, and about half also note woody, floral and resinous facets.
The notes are listed without stages, but the character comes through clearly. Pepper and saffron open with a warm, prickly and slightly leathery spice that frames the flower from the start. Rose sits at the centre, rich and deep rather than fresh or dewy. Underneath, patchouli adds an earthy, dark woodiness, and labdanum a warm, balsamic, almost leathery resin that gives the rose a sensual, smouldering finish.
