Creed's Aventus, an Eau de Parfum from 2010, is a bright fruity scent for men built on citrus and orchard fruit over a dry, smoky woody base. It moves from juicy freshness to something drier and more grounded.

The opening brings bergamot and lemon for sparkle, apple and blackcurrant for a tart, juicy edge, and a pinch of pink pepper for lift. In the heart, pineapple keeps the fruit going while jasmine adds a soft floral touch and patchouli an earthy depth. The base is where it turns: birch gives a smoky, slightly tarry dryness, oakmoss a green, forest-floor bitterness, and cedarwood, musk and ambergris a clean, faintly salty warmth.

People are split on how long it lasts, with as many calling it moderate as long lasting, and most find the trail moderate rather than loud. It is voted mainly for summer and spring, and a little more for daytime than evening, which suggests the office, weekends outdoors and warm-weather dinners.
