Hala

Hala is a sweet, resinous scent with a fruity opening, made by the Canadian house Eau De Moe and released in 2022. Everyone who describes it calls it gourmand; around two thirds also find it resinous, and a minority notice woody, musky, floral or citrus sides.

Plum and grapefruit start things off, the dark, jammy fruit balanced by a sharp citrus bitterness. The heart is heliotrope and orchid, which bring a soft, almond-like powderiness and a creamy floral sweetness. The base is heavy and warm: benzoin and labdanum give a sticky, balsamic resin, agarwood adds a dark wood, and amber, vanilla and tonka bean fold it all into a rich, slightly boozy sweetness.

Hala is worn by anyone. Its density points towards autumn and winter and towards evenings, and it suits someone who likes amber-vanilla scents with a bit of fruit and smoke rather than a clean, fresh profile.
