Misqaal

Misqaal is a dense, sweet oriental from Tola, composed by Dhaher Bin Dhaher and released in 2013, and it is built on a very long list of ingredients. Floral is the word everyone uses for it; three quarters also find it gourmand and woody, about half spicy or citrusy, and a smaller group ambery.

The opening is a bright, fruity cluster: grapefruit, bergamot, mandarin, lemon, pineapple and raspberry, warmed by cinnamon, nutmeg and pink pepper. The heart is a full bouquet of rose, jasmine, orange blossom, lily of the valley, orchid and heliotrope, with honey adding a thick golden sweetness and orris root a soft powder. The base is where the oriental character lives: agarwood, incense, labdanum, benzoin, sandalwood and vetiver for smoke and resin, vanilla and tonka for sweetness, and castoreum, ambergris and musk for a warm, animalic, long-lasting depth.

Misqaal is worn by anyone. It is a scent for cooler months and evenings, and for someone who enjoys rich, layered, traditional compositions.
