Miyako

Miyako by Keiko Mecheri, released in 2024, is a dry, meditative woody scent built on Japanese cypress and incense. Everyone who describes it calls it woody, and a minority also find it gourmand, resinous or amber-like.

Hinoki wood is the centre, a clean, slightly lemony, almost temple-like cypress that smells of fresh timber rather than dark resin. Frankincense adds a dry, airy smoke that suits the hinoki naturally. Patchouli and patchouli leaf bring an earthy, slightly damp depth underneath, and sandalwood softens the whole with a creamy smoothness. Vanilla adds a quiet, faint sweetness in the drydown without turning the scent sweet.

Miyako is worn by anyone. Its calm, clean woodiness suits spring and autumn and daytime wear, and it will appeal to someone who likes quiet, contemplative scents and finds most woody fragrances too heavy or too sweet. It is more about atmosphere than projection.
