Eau Duelle Eau de Parfum by the French house Diptyque, released in 2013 and composed by Fabrice Pellegrin, is a smoky, spiced vanilla. Everyone who describes it calls it gourmand, and about half also find it spicy or amber-like.

Vanilla, including Bourbon vanilla, is the centre, but it is a dry, woody, slightly boozy vanilla rather than a sugary one. Pink pepper adds a bright, rosy spice at the top. Incense brings a dry, church-like smoke that runs through the whole composition and keeps the sweetness in check, and cypriol adds an earthy, smoky, rooty depth that gives the drydown its darker, more serious character.

Eau Duelle is worn by anyone. Most wearers find its longevity moderate and its projection moderate to intimate, so it stays close to the skin. It is voted mainly for winter and autumn and splits evenly between day and night, making it a cool-weather vanilla for someone who wants smoke rather than sugar.
