Mandragola by V Canto, composed by Paolo Terenzi in 2016, is a woody floral scent worn by anyone. Woody is the description everyone agrees on; about three quarters also call it floral, about half citrusy, and a minority find green, musky and ambery sides.

Bergamot, lime and petitgrain give a sharp, green-citrus brightness, joined by absinthe for a bitter, herbal edge. Bulgarian rose and jasmine form the floral heart, rose rich and slightly jammy, jasmine heady, and saffron adds a leathery, faintly metallic spice. The base is deep and layered: agarwood for dark, smoky wood, guaiac wood for a tarry sweetness, sandalwood for creaminess, vetiver for earthy dryness, and vanilla, amber and musk to warm and soften it all.

This is an Italian niche fragrance with weight and complexity, better suited to cooler weather and evenings than to a summer afternoon. It suits anyone who likes rose and oud framed by bitter herbs rather than by sweetness.
