Noir de Noir, composed for Tom Ford in 2007 by Olivier Cresp, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud and Harry Fremont, is a dark rose over oud and earth. Wood and flowers are noticed equally by everyone, and about half of wearers also find it spicy, sweet and green.
Saffron opens it with a leathery, slightly medicinal spice. The heart is a dark, jammy rose with an earthy truffle note beside it, an unusual pairing that gives the flower a damp, mushroomy depth rather than a fresh-cut prettiness. The base combines oud and patchouli for a smoky, earthy weight, oakmoss for a bitter, forest-floor greenness, and vanilla to add a soft sweetness underneath.
Most people find it long lasting, with sillage split between strong and moderate. It is voted chiefly for winter and autumn and strongly for the evening. It is worn by anyone, and suits those who like dark, earthy roses for cold nights rather than light, dewy ones.
Noir de Noir — unisex fragrance by Tom Ford (released 2007). Top notes: Saffron. Heart notes: Black Rose, Truffle, Floral Notes. Base notes: Patchouli, Vanilla, Agarwood (Oud), Oakmoss. — Parfica open fragrance database
