Royal Vintage from the French house M. Micallef, released in 2020, is a minimalist spicy woody fragrance for men. Wood is what everyone notices, and about half also describe it as spicy and musky.
The structure is spare and clear. Pink pepper opens it with a bright, rosy, gently peppery warmth. Cypress forms the heart, resinous, dry and coniferous, with a cool, green edge. The base is patchouli and musk: the patchouli earthy and slightly chocolatey, the musk smoothing it into a soft, clean finish that sits close to the skin.
It is marketed as masculine and has the character of a quiet, well-mannered scent for daytime and the office, with enough woody depth to carry into the evening. It will suit someone who prefers a few well-chosen materials to a long, shifting composition.
