Legal from the Dutch house Salle Privée, released in 2021, is a dry, spicy woody scent for men. Woody is the word everyone uses; about two thirds also call it spicy, and a minority find it aromatic or citrusy.

Grapefruit opens it with a sharp, bitter brightness, and pink pepper adds a rosy, tingling spice. The heart is herbal and a little unusual: rosemary for a clean, resinous green note, cinnamon for dry warmth and absinthe for a bitter, aniseed-like twist that gives the fragrance its character. Cedar, sandalwood and vetiver form the base, dry and smoky rather than sweet, with no vanilla or amber to soften them.

The absence of sweetness makes it feel restrained and adult. It suits everyday wear in cooler months, office settings and anyone who likes angular woody scents in the vein of a dry vetiver or cedar, with a herbal edge rather than a gourmand one.
