Ciel D'Orage

Ciel D'Orage from the Omani house Ojar, composed by Jordi Fernández and released in 2021, is a dry, piney woody oud. Woody is the word everyone uses for it; a smaller group also find it spicy, floral, ambery or leathery.

Artemisia and saffron give the opening a bitter, herbal, slightly leathery edge. Pine and pine tree bring a resinous, cool, forest-like greenness that is unusual next to oud, and rose adds a soft floral warmth in the middle. Agarwood is the core, dark, smoky and slightly medicinal, with guaiac wood adding a warm, faintly smoky sweetness and sandalwood a creamy smoothness. Patchouli and vetiver give the base an earthy, rooty depth, suede a soft, velvety texture, and styrax a sweet, balsamic, slightly leathery resin.

Ciel D'Orage is worn by anyone. Its dry, resinous character suits autumn and winter and cooler evenings outdoors, and it should appeal to someone who likes oud in a green, woody form rather than a sweet or rosy one.
