Coffee and rose are the whole story of Ristretto Intense Café, a gourmand from Montale released in 2019. Everyone who describes it calls it gourmand, about half add floral, and a quarter pick out wood, musk or amber.
It opens with coffee and a dark red rose side by side, so the first impression is bitter-sweet rather than sugary. The heart deepens the roast with roasted coffee beans against French rose and a touch of woody notes, keeping the floral from going soft. The base is the dessert course: caramel and vanilla over amber, with white musk smoothing it into a warm, slightly creamy drydown.
