Pepper and saffron set the tone from the start, with a dry heat and a slightly leathery, golden spice. The rose at its centre comes partly from May rose, which brings a fresh, honeyed and bright petal note. Immortelle adds a curious warm, hay-and-maple sweetness. The base is dark and resinous: labdanum, including a Spanish variety, gives a sticky, ambery depth, and patchouli an earthy, woody backbone that holds the rose in place.
As an extrait built on spice, rose and resin, it reads as a rich and characterful scent, best kept for autumn and winter, evenings and occasions where a bold signature is welcome. It suits anyone who loves rose but prefers it dark, spicy and grown-up rather than delicate or dewy.
