New Oud

New Oud is a woody fragrance from Hayari Parfums, released in 2016, composed by Cécile Zarokian and worn by anyone. Woody is how everyone describes it, about half also call it floral, and a quarter find it spicy, green or citrusy, which marks it out as a lighter, more Mediterranean take on oud than most.

Bitter orange and petitgrain open it, the orange sharp and slightly bitter, the petitgrain green and woody like crushed orange leaves, with juniper adding a dry, gin-like coolness. Saffron brings its leathery spice into the heart, where orange blossom and tuberose provide the floral side, the former sweet and sunny, the latter creamy and heady. Agarwood sits beneath them, dry and resinous rather than heavy, with vetiver and papyrus adding smoky, dusty, dry woods that extend the oud in a cleaner direction.

It is a scent for most seasons, worn in daytime or evening, for anyone curious about oud who prefers brightness and structure to sweetness and density.
