Iris Nazarena from Aedes de Venustas, composed by Ralf Schwieger in 2013, is a woody iris with leather, amber and a spicy edge. It is cool and powdery at first, then turns darker and more resinous as it develops.

The opening is unusual: star anise brings a liquorice-like spice, juniper berries add a crisp, gin-like freshness, iris offers its cool, powdery elegance and ambrette lends a soft, musky warmth. In the heart, rose and cloves add floral and spicy facets, while leather and agarwood (oud) give smoky depth. The base of woody notes, incense, vetiver and amber is dry, earthy and gently glowing.

Wearers report moderate to long-lasting wear, and the sillage is mostly moderate, with some finding it strong. It is voted for spring and autumn, a little more by day than at night. Worn by anyone, it suits work, cultural outings and cooler transitional days, for someone who likes iris with grit and texture rather than pure powder.
