Orange and pink pepper give a bright, sparkling opening, and black pepper a drier, sharper heat. Incense soon takes over, cool, smoky and meditative, like a Japanese temple. Rose and iris add a soft, powdery floral calm, and coffee a roasted, slightly bitter warmth. The base is resinous and smooth: opoponax and benzoin bring a sweet, balmy amber, leather a supple texture, patchouli an earthy depth, and woody notes and musk a dry, clean finish.
It is shared and can be worn by anyone. Encens Japonais suits autumn and winter, quiet evenings, contemplative moments and smart occasions, and should appeal to people who love peppery incense with a powdery, floral softness.
