Remarkable People is a spicy, fizzy scent from Etat Libre d'Orange, released in 2015 and composed by Cécile Matton. Everyone who describes it reaches for spicy; about half also find it woody, floral, resinous or citrus, which gives a sense of how many directions it points at once.
The opening is the unusual part: a champagne note, sparkling and slightly bitter, with grapefruit and cardamom around it. The heart turns savoury with curry tree leaf and black pepper, warmed by a little jasmine so it never becomes a kitchen smell. The base is labdanum, a resinous amber, over sandalwood and Lorenox, a dry woody material, bringing the fizz down to something softer.
It is worn by anyone. Most wearers report moderate longevity and a third find it weak, with sillage that stays moderate to intimate. Summer and spring are the preferred seasons, and it is voted strongly for daytime. It suits warm days when a conventional citrus feels too plain and you want something with a bit of wit.
