Frustration from Etat Libre d'Orange, released in 2022, is a boozy, spicy vanilla. People describe it as spicy, gourmand and woody in equal measure, with a resinous side noted by about half.
It opens with rum, cinnamon and cumin, a warm, sweet, slightly sweaty start where the cumin gives the sugar a skin-like edge. The heart is vanilla and vanilla absolute with labdanum, thick and resinous, closer to dark vanilla pod than to custard. The base is chestnut for a roasted, nutty sweetness, Bourbon vetiver for a smoky dryness, and guaiacol, which adds a smoky, almost medicinal woodiness.
Longevity is split between long lasting and moderate, and most find the sillage moderate while a fifth call it strong. It is voted for autumn and winter and strongly for night. It is worn by anyone, and suits cold evenings and someone who likes vanilla with a dark, smoky, slightly unsettling side.
