Tam Dao Eau de Toilette by Diptyque, released in 2003 and worn by anyone, is a quiet, dry sandalwood. Woodiness is what everyone agrees on; a quarter also notice spice, musk, a floral touch and amber.

The opening is fresher and greener than the name suggests: myrtle and Italian cypress bring a resinous, slightly camphorous, forest-like sharpness, and rose adds a soft floral note that fades quickly. The heart is sandalwood and cedar, the sandalwood creamy and milky, the cedar dry and pencil-like, and together they give the scent its calm, meditative character. The base adds Brazilian rosewood for a smooth, faintly sweet wood, a touch of amber and spices for warmth, and white musk for a clean, skin-like finish.
