Black Line from the French house Mancera is a dark, woody fragrance built around patchouli, leather and musk. Composed by Pierre Montale and released in 2013, it is described first as woody, then as musky, with spice, rose, amber and leather all playing smaller parts.
Patchouli gives it an earthy, slightly damp depth, and guaiac wood adds a smoky, almost tar-like woodiness. Leather brings a dry, animalic toughness, softened by sandalwood, which is creamy and warm. A measure of rose and a touch of spice lift the blend so it never becomes purely dark, and amber with white musk settles the whole thing into a warm, skin-like finish.
This is a scent for people who like their woods serious rather than fresh. It is worn by anyone, and its leather-and-patchouli character suggests evenings and cooler months more than bright summer days.
