Gyan is a jasmine and incense scent built on patchouli, composed by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud for Bvlgari in 2016 and marketed to men, though its notes are not conventionally masculine. Floral is the leading impression for everyone; about half also find it woody and ambery.
Jasmine and jasmine sambac are the centre, the sambac variety being greener, more tea-like and slightly spicy compared with the lush, sweet jasmine beside it. Incense adds a dry, smoky, church-like resin that lifts the flowers out of the garden and into something more contemplative. Patchouli supplies the base, earthy and dark, giving the jasmine a grounded, almost woody depth that lasts on skin. The combination of white flower, smoke and earth suggests cooler months and evening wear, and a wearer who likes florals with a serious, incense-led edge rather than a fresh one.
