XJ 1861 Decas by Xerjoff is a rich floral amber from 2021, composed by Chris Maurice and worn by anyone. The opening sets tuberose, a creamy, heady white flower, against Calabrian mandarin and tobacco, so there is brightness and a dry, leafy depth from the start. The heart is resinous and powdery: benzoin and opoponax bring a sweet, balsamic warmth while Italian orris root adds a cool, elegant powder. Bourbon vanilla, musk and resin in the base make the drydown soft, sweet and long.
Most wearers find it long lasting, with a quarter reporting moderate longevity. Sillage is moderate for about half and strong for a good third. It is voted for autumn first and spring second and splits fairly evenly between day and night, which makes it a dressy scent for mild to cool weather.
