Blue Matcha, from Montale in 2021, was composed by Pierre Montale. Citrus is the word everyone uses for it; about two thirds also find it green, woody and musky, and a third notice sweetness and leather further in.
The opening is a bright citrus spread of Sicilian mandarin, bergamot and lemon, and matcha tea adds a grassy, slightly bitter green note that gives the scent its name. The heart turns darker than expected: patchouli leaf, leather and tobacco bring earth, dry wood and a faintly smoky warmth. The base of musk, mate and ambergris is soft and slightly salty, with the mate keeping a green tea thread running to the end.
Most wearers report long-lasting performance, and the projection is moderate to strong. It is voted for summer first, then autumn, and mostly for daytime. Worn by anyone, it suits people who want a citrus-tea scent with more depth and dryness than a typical summer cologne.
