Dark Purple is Montale's 2011 feminine, composed by Pierre Montale: a fruity rose on a woody, ambery base with notably strong performance. Woody and floral are the words everyone uses; about half also find it sweet, musky, ambery and citrusy.

Plum and orange open it with a dark, juicy fruit and a brighter citrus. The heart is rose with red berries, geranium and patchouli, a rich, jammy rose made greener by geranium and earthier by patchouli, so the flowers feel deep rather than fresh. The base is teak wood, amber and musk, a dry, slightly smoky wood with a warm, resinous glow.

Performance is the headline: nearly half of wearers call it near permanent and most of the rest long lasting, and the sillage is strong for most, so it needs a light hand. Autumn and winter take the seasonal votes and it is worn mostly at night. It suits cold evenings and anyone who likes a big, fruity rose with woods and amber.
