Aoud Night is a Montale oud from 2014, composed by Pierre Montale. Woody is the word everyone uses for it, about half also find it citrusy, and a minority notice sweetness, florals, amber and leather.
The opening puts agarwood right at the front, alongside bergamot, Sicilian lemon and fruity notes, so the dark, resinous oud is brightened by a sharp citrus lift. The heart is Moroccan rose and Indonesian patchouli leaf, the rose adding a jammy floral warmth and the patchouli a damp, earthy depth. The base of guaiac wood, leather, sandalwood and amber is smoky, warm and slightly sweet, with white musk softening the edges.
Most wearers report near-permanent wear, and the projection is enormous to strong, so this is among the louder ouds. It is voted for winter and autumn and leans towards the evening. Worn by anyone, it suits cold nights and people who want their oud bold and long-lived rather than discreet.
