Figuier Noir

Figuier Noir by Houbigant, composed by Céline Ellena and released in 2022, is a dark, peppery fig. Everyone who describes it calls it spicy; about half also find it gourmand, green, woody and floral.

Black pepper, cardamom and cloves open it with a dry, warm spice that is unusual for a fig scent. Fig leaf adds the green, milky, slightly bitter note that gives fig fragrances their character, while black fig and candied fruits bring a riper, sweeter, jam-like fruitiness underneath the spice. Jasmine and iris in the heart add a little floral warmth and a powdery softness that smooths the transition. The base is cedar and patchouli, dry and earthy, so the scent ends on wood rather than sweetness.

It is positioned as a masculine fragrance. The weight of pepper, cloves and patchouli suggests autumn and winter rather than the summer most fig scents are made for, and it suits people who like fig but want something darker and more spiced than the usual green, sunlit version.
