Ambre Rubis

Ambre Rubis by Houbigant, composed by Antoine Lie and Luca Maffei and released in 2024, is a boozy, resinous amber with red fruit. Everyone who describes it calls it woody and ambery; a third also find it spicy, gourmand, floral or citrusy.

Orange and pink pepper open it with a bright, gently spiced citrus, and cherry and red berries add a tart, jewel-red fruitiness that gives the scent its name. Rum follows with a warm, boozy, slightly caramelised sweetness. Jasmine in the heart is a soft floral accent rather than a feature. The base is where the amber sits: fir and fir resin bring a cool, coniferous, sticky-sap quality, incense a dry smokiness, ambergris a salty, mineral warmth, and cedar and woody notes a dry floor that keeps the fruit and rum from becoming syrupy.

It is a shared fragrance, worn by anyone. The combination of rum, resin and incense suggests cold weather and evenings, festive ones in particular, and it suits people who like ambers that are smoky and resinous rather than powdery.
