Wildfire

Wildfire, composed by Delphine Thierry for the Norwegian house Malbrum Parfums in 2016, is a spicy fragrance according to everyone who rates it. About two in five also call it ambered, and a minority find it sweet or woody. The name is a fair description of its temperature.

It opens with peppermint and black and pink pepper, a cool, tingling freshness set immediately against sharp heat. The heart is pure spice cupboard: nutmeg, cloves and pimento give a dry, warming, slightly medicinal blend. The base deepens and darkens, with incense adding smoke, patchouli an earthy bitterness, and costus a warm, slightly animalic, skin-like note. Vanilla and amber round it off with a soft, resinous sweetness that keeps the spice from feeling harsh.

Wildfire is a shared fragrance, worn by anyone. Spice, incense and amber of this intensity belong to cold weather and evenings, and to people who like fragrances that feel warming and a little untamed rather than fresh or polite.
