Polo Blue, created by Carlos Benaïm and Christophe Laudamiel for Ralph Lauren in 2003, is a fresh, aromatic scent for men with a watery, melon-tinged opening. Freshness and aromatic herbs are noticed by everyone, and about half of wearers also find it woody, floral, leathery and citrusy.
Cucumber and melon open it with a cool, green, watery quality, brightened by mandarin. The heart is herbal: basil and sage give a clean, slightly peppery greenness, with geranium adding a rosy, leafy note. The base is soft rather than heavy, a smooth suede note over light woods and musk, which gives the drydown a gentle, clean warmth without taking away the freshness.
Most people report moderate longevity, and a quarter find it weak, so it is a scent to reapply. Sillage is moderate to intimate. It is voted mainly for summer and spring and for daytime. It suits men who want an easy, clean, sporty scent for warm days.
