Alter Ego 786 from the Swiss house Maison Noir, composed by Alexandra Monet and released in 2022, is a woody fragrance with spice and flowers in support. Everyone who describes it says woody; about half add spicy and floral, and a minority find it sweet, resinous or leathery.
The notes are listed without stages. Raspberry opens with a tart, slightly jammy fruitiness, and saffron with cinnamon brings a warm, leathery, dry spice. Geranium and bourbon geranium give the heart a rosy, green, slightly minty floral character that stands in for rose. The base is deep and layered: oud for dark, resinous wood, cedar for a drier edge, sandalwood for creaminess, labdanum for ambery warmth, and leather for a smoky, supple finish.
