Original Oud from Louis Cardin is a woody, musky oud for men, released in 2016. Everyone who has described it calls it woody, most find it musky, and a minority add a leathery side.
The notes are few and listed together: agarwood, sandalwood, patchouli, leather, musk and black musk. Agarwood gives the dark, resinous woodiness that defines the scent; sandalwood softens it with a creamy smoothness; patchouli adds earth; leather brings a smoky, slightly animalic edge; and the two musks, one clean and one darker, round off the base and help it cling to skin. With no citrus, flowers or sweetness listed, this is a dry, straightforward interpretation of oud.
Longevity and sillage have not been reported. A dry oud, leather and musk composition of this kind suits cold weather and evening wear, and would appeal to a man who wants an unsweetened oud rather than a modern gourmand version. It is sold in a 100 ml bottle.
