Maahir Black Edition, from Lattafa Perfumes in 2020, is a dark, smoky spice scent made to be worn by anyone. Spicy and woody are the words wearers use most, with a third also finding it sweet, resinous, ambery and leathery.
Saffron and black pepper open it, dry, hot and a little leathery already. The heart is where the smoke comes in: cade oil, a tarry, campfire note, with gurjan balsam and labdanum for a sticky, resinous warmth, and rhubarb for a surprising tart, green edge that cuts through the darkness. The base is a long woody floor of guaiac wood and patchouli, with leather and moss for a dry, slightly animalic finish.
About half of wearers report long-lasting wear and a similar share find the sillage strong, so it projects well. Winter and autumn take most of the votes and it is clearly an evening scent, suited to cold nights and anyone who likes smoke, resin and spice rather than freshness.
