Maahir Black Edition, from Lattafa Perfumes in 2020, is a dark, smoky spice scent made to be worn by anyone. Spicy and woody are the words wearers use most, with a third also finding it sweet, resinous, ambery and leathery.
Saffron and black pepper open it, dry, hot and a little leathery already. The heart is where the smoke comes in: cade oil, a tarry, campfire note, with gurjan balsam and labdanum for a sticky, resinous warmth, and rhubarb for a surprising tart, green edge that cuts through the darkness. The base is a long woody floor of guaiac wood and patchouli, with leather and moss for a dry, slightly animalic finish.
