Épices Exquises from Guerlain, created in 2024 by Thierry Wasser, is spicy and woody in equal measure. Its compact list of notes centres on peppers and oud, giving a clear, focused character.

Black pepper, pink pepper and cardamom form the opening: dry and crackling from the black pepper, rosy and bright from the pink, cool and aromatic from the cardamom. The spice then settles onto agarwood, or oud, which brings a deep, resinous and slightly animalic woodiness, while patchouli adds earthy darkness and sandalwood a creamy smoothness that softens the edges.
