Ferre Black by Gianfranco Ferre, released in 2015, is a spicy masculine fragrance that most wearers also describe as woody. A third notice floral, aromatic or citrus sides.
It opens with lavender, pepper and grapefruit: the lavender cool and herbal, the pepper dry and sharp, the grapefruit bitter and bright. The heart brings cardamom and coriander for a warm, slightly citrusy spice, with orange blossom adding a honeyed floral softness. The base is short and dry: teak wood gives a dark, smooth, slightly smoky woodiness and patchouli an earthy depth.
Pepper and lavender over teak and patchouli suits autumn and evening wear and reads as a classic spicy masculine, well suited to anyone who prefers dry woods to sweetness. Community reports on longevity and sillage have not yet been collected, so test it on skin before deciding.
