The Afternoon of a Faun from Etat Libre d'Orange, released in 2012 and composed by Ralf Schwieger, is a spiced, resinous floral in the chypre mould. Everyone describes it as floral, two thirds add spicy and resinous, and a third find it ambery, leathery or citrus.
The notes come as a list rather than a pyramid. Bergamot gives a brief brightness; pepper and cinnamon add dry and sweet spice. Rose, jasmine and orris root form the floral heart, with the orris lending a cool, powdery, slightly earthy texture. Immortelle is the signature, a curry-like, maple-syrup warmth that is hard to mistake. Incense, myrrh and benzoin give the resinous depth, oakmoss a dry, mossy bitterness and leather a soft, worn-in finish.
It is worn by anyone. About half of wearers report it as long lasting and a third as moderate, with sillage that is moderate for most. Autumn is the top season with spring second, and it is voted mostly for day. It suits someone who likes complex, slightly old-fashioned scents with moss and resin, for daytime wear in mild weather.
