Lauder for Men is a green, woody floral from Estée Lauder, released in 1985 and composed by Nicholas Calderone. Everyone describes it as woody and floral, three quarters also call it green, and about half find it spicy and citrusy.
The opening is sharply green: galbanum, a bitter, snapped-stem resin, with juniper and anise for a herbal, liquorice edge, and lemon for brightness. The heart is a floral that few modern masculine scents would attempt, carnation with its clove-like spice and rose for fullness, over vetiver. The base is classic chypre territory: oakmoss for damp earth, sandalwood for dry wood, patchouli for depth, and a little vanilla to soften it.
Most wearers report it as long lasting or moderate, and projection is usually moderate, sometimes strong. Spring and autumn lead the votes, and day wear is slightly ahead of night.
