Oud Save The King, from Atkinsons in 2013, was composed by Amandine Clerc-Marie. It is a woody scent first; about half of wearers also find it green, leathery and citrusy, which describes a very British take on oud.
The opening is Earl Grey tea and bergamot, so it begins with the bergamot-scented tea itself, bright, slightly bitter and a little smoky. The heart is suede, soft and supple rather than rough, a gentle leather that bridges the tea and the wood. The base is agarwood and sandalwood, the oud kept clean and polished, with the sandalwood adding creaminess so the finish is smooth rather than medicinal.
Most people report long-lasting or moderate performance, and the projection is moderate for most, strong for some. It is voted for winter and autumn and leans towards the evening. Worn by anyone, it suits cold weather and people who like the idea of oud but want it tamed with tea and soft leather.
