Arabesque

Arabesque by The Merchant of Venice is a warm, spicy tobacco scent from 2015, worn by anyone. People describe it as spicy, gourmand and woody in equal measure, with about half also finding it green, musky and resinous, so the sweetness comes wrapped in spice and smoke rather than sugar.

Plum, ginger and tobacco leaf open it: the plum is dark and jammy, the ginger adds a fresh, peppery lift, and the tobacco brings a dry, leafy sweetness that becomes the backbone of the scent. Cinnamon, cedar and tonka bean in the heart turn it warmer and rounder, with the tonka adding an almondy softness. Musk, vetiver and benzoin in the base keep it smooth, slightly smoky and resinous for a long finish.

Most wearers find it long lasting, and about a third describe it as eternal. Sillage splits between moderate and strong. It is voted for winter and autumn above other seasons and mostly for night, which suggests a rich evening scent for cold months.
