Magda

Magda, composed by Delphine Thierry for Lubin in 2021, is a floral gourmand: everyone who describes it calls it floral and most add sweet, with spice, wood, amber and citrus mentioned by a minority. The picture is of white flowers served with a dessert trolley.

It opens on fruit and juice: mandarin, cherry, pomegranate and a syrupy blackcurrant, with cinnamon adding warmth. The heart is unapologetically white-floral, with tuberose and gardenia bringing their creamy, heady richness and orange blossom a softer, honeyed sweetness. Underneath, amaretto brings an almond-liqueur note, vanilla and Peru balsam add a resinous, slightly smoky sweetness, and sandalwood rounds off the base with a milky wood finish.

Marketed for women, this is a rich, evening sort of fragrance, best suited to cooler months and occasions where a noticeable scent is welcome. Anyone who finds tuberose or amaretto too much will want to try it first; those who enjoy lush, sweet florals will find a lot to like.
