In Extremis by the Italian house Astrophil & Stella is a dark, woody fragrance released in 2024 and composed by Giuseppe Imprezzabile. Woods lead, with a strong green side and floral, ambery and leathery facets, and it is worn by anyone.

Galbanum, angelica and mastic open with a sharp, green and resinous bite, bitter and almost sappy. Chamomile adds a soft, herbal, hay-like tone, while osmanthus and magnolia bring a gentle floral glow. The base is dense: oud lends smoky, dark woodiness, birch and leather a tarry, smoky leather note, incense a dry, churchy smoke, and guaiac wood and vetiver an earthy dryness, softened by ambergris and musk.

This is a bold, characterful scent best suited to autumn and winter, evenings and occasions where an unusual fragrance is welcome. It is not a crowd-pleaser so much as a statement. It suits those who enjoy smoky, leathery woods with a sharp green edge and a resinous depth.
