Shalimar Eau de Cologne, the lightest version of the 1925 Guerlain classic, keeps the familiar structure in a fresher form. Woods lead, with florals, amber and citrus strong and sweet and leathery touches.

The opening is bright and zesty: mandarin orange, lemon and bergamot give a sparkling citrus, with cedar adding a dry woody edge. The heart is soft and powdery, with rose, jasmine and iris forming an elegant floral cushion, grounded by vetiver and patchouli. The base is rich despite the light concentration: civet adds an animalic warmth, opoponax, benzoin, Peru balsam and incense a resinous, smoky glow, leather a smooth texture, and vanilla, sandalwood and musk a creamy finish.

Most wearers report moderate longevity and a moderate sillage. It is voted for autumn and winter and is worn equally by day and night. Marketed for women, it suits office days and casual wear, and anyone who wants the Shalimar character in a brighter, lighter form.
